Baked Macaroni and Cheese~ Kits Cooking Studio: American Girl

Baked Macaroni and Cheese
From Kit’s Cooking Studio: American Girl

1 stick of butter divided
8 ounces or two cups of macaroni noodles
2 ¼ cups of milk
4 T of flour
½ t of salt
¼ t of pepper
2 Cups of grated cheddar cheese divided
½ cup of bread crumbs


Preheat the over to 375 degrees. Grease the casserole dish with one tablespoon of butter. Set dish aside.

Pour 2 quarts of water into the large sauce pan. Cover the pan and set it over high heat. Bring water to boil.

Add the noodles. Turn the heat to medium. Boil the noodles for 8 min., stirring occasionally.

Set the colander in the sink. Poor noodles into the colander. Rinse the noodles with cold water and put them back into the pan. Set pan aside.

In a saucepan, heat the milk on medium high. Stir constantly until steaming hot but not boiling. Remove from heat

In another saucepan melt 4 tablespoons of butter over low heat. Be careful not to let it burn. When the butter is melted, stir in the flour, salt and pepper.

Add the hot milk to to the butter mixture. Turn the heat to medium high. Cook the mixture for 5 minutes. Stirirng constantly.

Remove the saucepan from heat. Add 1 ½ cups of grated cheese. Stir the mixture until all the cheese is melted.

Put half the noodles into the casserole dish. Cover with half the cheese sauce. Sprinkle the ¼ cup of grated cheese. Repeat with the remaining noodles, cheese sauce, and grated cheese.

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the skillet over low heat. Add the bread crumbs. Stir until all the crumbs are moistened.

Sprinkle the crumbs over the macaroni and cheese. Bake the dish uncovered for 25 minutes or until browned on top. Serve Hot.
